[Silently hidden amongst the plains of North Dakota...]
[a decontructed Minuteman missile silo - November 33]
[Ben attempts to infilitrate the top secret facility]
[Minnesota - only a stone's throw away!]
[4 maps down!]
We awoke this morning to a bright sunny day in Cooperstown, ND. We hurried up and got on the road to Fargo. We had optimal conditions - 65 degrees, partly cloudy, and no wind. We quickly needed to stop, however, as we happened upon an old missile silo hidden in plain view along the highway. It was an interesting memorial to weapons meant to create mass destruction. It also made one wonder how many of these facilities are still in operation in out of the way places around the country. From there we had a quick jaunt into Hope, ND where all of our prayers were not answered. There really was nowhere to eat so we continured on to Page. There is a wonderful little cafe on Main Street in Page, ND that I would recommend to anyone in the area. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The service was top-notch and very timely. Finally, there were some very interesting books detailing the history of the town of Page. Overall, it was a tremendously satisfying stop. We continued on our way to Fargo with stops in Aurthur and Argusville. Upon reaching Fargo we wound our way through town and finally reached our campground in Lindenwood Park nestled on the banks of the Red River and about 100 yards from the Interstate 94 bridge. Nothing like the constant hum of traffic to lull a city boy to sleep. Great weather made for a very enjoyable 97 mile day. We're both looking forward to being back in good old Minnesota tomorrow.
